Access to our shows

Access information for our General Audience is below. For additional information on the access night specifically, please scroll down.

Welcome!

We hope you will be able to attend Until the Sun Rises! We are in the process of growing our own access practices and articulating what types of access we can and cannot provide. This note is meant to provide you with information about what to expect. We hope that our productions will grow in accessibility as we continue to reach toward more accessible performance.

Navigation and flow of the show

Audience members are asked to move locations throughout the show and follow the dancers throughout the space. We encourage people to choose their own adventure! This might feel new, different, or uncomfortable to you -- this is ok! There is no right or wrong way to experience this performance. If you are unsure what to do, we invite you to let the spark of your own curiosity take you where you want to go. There are a range of ways to move through this experience, and all are valid and encouraged.

Staff will support people with directions and navigation, and there will be a map of the space available. Performers may engage with you during the performance if you indicate that this is welcome with a green sticker that you will be given at registration. Yellow stickers ask performers to approach with caution, and red stickers mean that you would rather not be engaged with.

There are chairs available, but we anticipate a standing and moving crowd at these performances. Because of this, visibility may be obstructed. If you would like to sit and would like to experience the full show, we recommend attending the seated performance on Access Night (you can read more about access night here). Children ages 12 and up are welcome at the regular performances, but must be with their guardians at all times. The Sunday matinee is appropriate for all ages with younger children in mind. This matinee is also a shortened version.

The run of the show is 3 hours with performances and installations throughout, but audience is encouraged to take a break when needed. Please arrive on time, but you are welcome to leave at any time.

Physical access

The entrance and main performance areas are wheelchair accessible. Wheelchair accessible, all-gender bathrooms will be available. Because the audience moves throughout the show, spaces can become crowded. For a smaller crowd and a seated performance, we invite you to get tickets for the Access Night.

There is one area up a flight of stairs that is not wheelchair accessible where installations will be programmed during a break in dance performance. The vast majority of the performance will take place in wheelchair-accessible areas.

There is another portion of the performance that can be accessed via a ramp, and the ground may be uneven in some parts of this area, and navigation may be more difficult. We encourage you to ask for assistance if you need it.

There is limited parking on site and the Mill is not climate controlled.

Sensory access

There are moving lights, but no strobe lights are used. There are no sudden loud noises. A water-based fog machine will be used throughout the show. There are no full blackouts, and people can leave and re-enter the performance space as needed.
